Unity is a game engine provided by Unity Technologies. Unity’s virtual technology is not only limited to games, and has also been adopted in industrial and academic fields.

License (Unity Academic Alliance, “UAA”)

Kanazawa University concluded a UAA with Unity in October 2021.

UAA is an academic license where students and academic staff can use the below services.

• Installation of Unity Pro under an academic license (academic staff only)
• Taking Unity Certification Exams for free (limited number)
• Discount on license-based products (for purchases with public funds)

• There will be a watermark on your finished work because the academic license is for educational purposes.
• You are prohibited from publishing free or paid content produced under the academic license on app stores, etc.
  • You are permitted to display content produced under the academic license at on- or off-campus exhibits or the school website for non-commercial use.
• Please make sure to uninstall all software installed under the academic license when you leave Kanazawa University.

How to Install Unity

For students

Students can install Unity on their private computers.

• First, please install Unity Personal.
  • You can install Unity Personal from the below link.

• Students can use Unity Student Plan that is linked with GitHub. (recommended)
  • https://store.unity.com/ja/academic/unity-student

Note: The Unity Student Plan contains software equivalent to Unity Pro, which can be shared between five team members. Using the various tools provided in the Student Plan, you can save your projects on the 25 GB of cloud space provided for free and create content quickly and efficiently.

Instructions for acquiring the Unity Student Plan are listed below. Students that wish to use the Unity Student Plan must apply individually.

1. https://store.unity.com/ja/academic/unity-student
   Sign up for the Unity Student Plan.
2. You will be asked to log in or create a Unity ID and GitHub account.
3. To apply for a GitHub Student Developer Pack, you will need to prove that you are a Kanazawa University student.
   Apply from https://education.github.com/pack.
4. After you are verified on GitHub, you can sign in and start the Unity Student Plan.

For academic staff

First, please install Unity Personal.

Academic staff can install Unity Pro under Unity’s EGL (Education Grant License) on university computers purchased with public funds.

Licenses are valid for one academic year, so you will need to renew your license at the end of the year.

Unity Certification Exam

Unity has introduced a certification exam system since proficiency in Unity is beneficial for career development in the many industries that require Unity skills such as gaming, VR, film, automotive, and others.

About the Unity Certification Exam

Exam Locations

Applications to take the Unity Certification Exam are accepted at Pearson VUE Test Centers. In Kanazawa, the exam can be taken at the Kanazawa Minamicho Test Center. To apply, log in to the Pearson VUE website, search for the Test Center, and make a reservation.

Exam Tickets (Vouchers) are Available

• Free exam tickets (vouchers) are issued as part of the benefits under the UAA. If you would like to acquire a voucher, please contact us via the Inquiry Form below. There is a limited number of vouchers issued each year, so if you are considering taking the Unity Certification Exam, please apply at your earliest convenience using the Inquiry Form.
